Introduction to Access VBA Course Outline
Course Description
This course provides delegates with an overview Access VBA. Rather than being a formal "learning to programme" course, this is a hands-on, task-based course which tackles some common problems and shows how they can be overcome with a little knowledge of VBA. It also serves as an excellent grounding in VBA concepts for delegates attending the 4 day "Access 2003 Programming" course.
Course pre-requisites:
Delegates should have a good knowledge of Microsoft Access, including creating tables, forms, reports and queries. A knowledge equivalent to PTR's Access Level 3 course is assumed.
Topics covered on the 1 day Introduction to Access VBA course
Topic 1: Automatically showing data based on a selection in a ListBox or ComboBox
Ever wanted to automatically show orders for a selected customer? Or all orders within a specific date range? This is where you learn how. We will look at how you can respond to a selection being made in a ListBox or ComboBox by filtering a subform to match the selection.
Topic 2: Sorting data by clicking on column headings
Let's say you have 1500 rows of data in a form. You want to allow the user to choose a sort order in a simple and easy way. In this topic, you will learn how you can write just a few lines of code to allow the user to click on a column heading to sort that column and click again to reverse the sort order.
Topic 3: Validating data in a form
So, you know how to set validation rules in a table. But attaching these rules to a form are so much more flexible! That way, you can have different rules on different forms – one rule for "standard" users, a different one for supervisors. In this topic, you will learn where and how to validate data, and about ways in which to inform the user of what they’re doing wrong.
Topic 4: Clickable process maps
Forms are great, but sometimes they can look a little dull… In this topic, we'll look at how you can use an image such as a process map on a form. Then we will look at how you can respond to the user clicking on the map – working out where they are clicking and opening different forms or reports based on where the mouse is.
Topic 5: Discussion
There's nothing worse than being on a course and coming away having had no time to talk over ideas. So, there's time at the end of this course for you to ask all the questions that have occurred, and to discuss ideas and issues that have come up over the course of the day.
This is an instructor led training course taught in a classroom based environment.
