Below is a list of the Security training courses PTR offer, along with a brief overview of the course contents and subject areas covered to assist with locating the correct course. To view full course outlines simply click on the course title.

Unix Audit & Security

The course is intended for those who need to find out what UINX is and where the different components are located, with a specific security objective in mind. In conjunction with an explanation of the technology, the prime risks and defences will be pointed out. Delegates who will benefit most from this course are typically computer auditors, security specialists and security conscious managers. The course also serves as a useful general introduction to UNIX.

Having acquired a high level understanding of UNIX, you will learn how to assess security hands on. All aspects are covered, both business and technical. You will hear commentary on certain real disasters that have happened to high profile companies in the past.

Planning for audits and discussion of suitable tests forms a substantial part of the course. Delegates will get a chance to run audit and security related commands. See what the administrators do. Find out how you could script your own TRIPWIRE.

Though the course is designed specifically for a SUN Solaris installation, it will serve as a good general overview for any flavour of UNIX.

Audit & Security of Networks

The course is intended for those who need to find out what networks are, how they work and what the prime risks are. It covers the range from wires and PC boards to business objectives and risks. Networking technology and its jargon are explained in non-technical terms.

Having acquired a high level understanding of networking technology, you will learn how to assess security by workshop exercises. All aspects are covered, both business and technical. Business-based workshops are introduced as knowledge is acquired. These require you to decide how networks and applications should be deployed and managed. You will hear commentary on certain real disasters that have happened to high profile companies in the past.

Planning for audits and discussion of suitable tests forms a substantial part of the course. Where hands on is possible, delegates will get a chance to run network probes, port scanners and examine network settings.

The course attempts to demystify the technology surrounding networks and is suitable not only for security specialists but also for non-technical business managers who need to control networking projects.

Designing Security for Microsoft Networks

Topics include assembling the design team, modeling threats, and analyzing security risks in order to meet business requirements for securing computers in a networked environment. The course encourages decision-making skills through an interactive tool that simulates real-life scenarios that the target audience may encounter. You are given the task of collecting the information and sorting through the details to resolve the given security requirement.

This course is intended for IT systems engineers and security specialists who are responsible for establishing security policies and procedures for an organization. Students should have one to three years of experience designing related business solutions.

This course covers the subject areas covered in Microsoft Course MS2830.

CISSP Fast Track

The goal of this CISSP training course is to prepare professionals for the challenging security exam CISSP by covering the syllabus as defined in the (ISC)² common body of knowledge.

Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) is a highly sought after course by those who are looking to make a career in Information Security. Our CISSP training course - 'CISSP Fast Track' is an intensive, in-depth training program that has consistantly achieved over 90% pass rates in the final CISSP examination.

Each student will get a CISSP training kit.

This Student kit includes:
  • CISSP Training Manuals
  • Access to complete CISSP training on self-paced e-Learning (online)
If you don't pass your CISSP exam first time, you are welcome to re-sit the course for free.

Firewall / VPN - Deployment and Implementation

This course is for those IT professionals who want to master network security. Delegates will learn the best firewall practices to safeguard their networks.

Training includes hands-on experience in installing and configuring some of the leading firewall products - Cisco PIX, Juniper NetScreen and Check Point Firewall-1, the latter on both a Windows Platform and the Nokia Security Platform.

Combines real-world experience with best-of-breed technologies to equip you with the skills to plan, design, implement and manage the firewall(s) protecting your network.

Oracle Database Audit & Security

The course works on the principle that "if you have done it you will understand it". Therefore do expect this course to involve you a great deal in discussions, workshops and especially examination of the system hands on. By the end of the course you will be familiar with Oracle's client interface, the SQL*PLUS monitor and with simple SQL queries. In particular, you will come to understand the technical language surrounding Oracle and will gain immediate credibility talking to the experts you will inevitably have to work with. Furthermore, by understanding the technology, the descriptions of risk will become immediately understood.

This hands-on course is intended for auditors and security specialists who are aware their businesses use Oracle based products, but do not understand the database platform and therefore the risks it may carry. You will learn how Oracle is built and a concept of what the various categories of user do on the database and the risks they carry.

Hands on labs will show you how to scan the system for objects, especially sensitive tables. And to find out who can do what to them. Further more, in this age of web technology, the concept of the authenticated user accessing parts of your data is passing away. It could be anyone!

Covers Oracle 9i, 10g and 11g.

Security for IT Practitioners

This course offers practical training in areas such as TCP/IP, types of attack, applied cryptography, multi-firewalls and intrusion detection systems, Internet and operating system security. The course helps individuals to move into the Internet security arena or to simply gain a broader working knowledge in the field of Information and Internet security, enabling delegates to plan a security policy and implement the latest security related technologies.

CompTIA Security +

This course is designed to prepare candidates for the CompTIA Security+ examination. The Security+ Certification program is an industry-wide, vendor-neutral program developed and sponsored by The Computing Industry Technology Association.

The course covers the objectives for the SY0-201 examination, which seeks to certify that candidates have knowledge of the security issues relating to the IT work environment, including social and environmental influences.

Each module ends with a set of review questions to help the student consolidate the topics covered. Where appropriate, hands-on practical exercises are included.

Penetration Testing

This is a 5-day course covering the principles of penetration testing, including hands-on practice with some of the tools available. Students will learn the differences between a hacker and a Penetration Tester before going on to study the types of procedures followed by the professional penetration tester. Common vulnerabilities of computer systems are discussed along with methods used by penetration testers to take advantage of them. This course is suitable for those IT professionals who will be required to test their own internal networks or the networks of an external client.

*** Delegates are encouraged to take the OPST ACCREDITED CERTIFICATION exam. The OPST Accreditation is the official security testing accredited certification based on the Open Source Security Testing Methodology Manual (OSSTMM). The OSSTMM provides a complete methodology on performing security testing from the outside to the inside. It is also beneficial in testing from the internal network to the DMZ and the DMZ to the internal network.

Managing Robust PKI Services
