Microsoft Fabric for Data Analysts: Hands-on Training for Analysts Moving from Power BI to Fabric
Microsoft Fabric brings data storage, preparation, modelling and reporting together in a single platform. For data analysts used to working in Power BI Desktop, that is a big opportunity, but it also means new concepts to learn: lakehouses, OneLake, Dataflows Gen2, deployment pipelines and a wider governance model. This 1-day, hands-on course takes you through the Fabric analyst workflow from end to end, from finding and preparing data to publishing a governed, secure report.
You will work with a lakehouse and OneLake, clean and load data with Dataflows Gen2, build and optimise a semantic model, and create a basic dashboard. You will then learn how to manage refreshes, promote solutions between environments, and share content securely.
Develop Microsoft Fabric Skills:
How to work with lakehouses and OneLake, including the difference between tables and files, shortcuts, and finding data in the OneLake catalogue.
How to share data in OneLake using workspace roles and permissions, and how access restrictions work.
How to connect to sources such as Fabric lakehouses and warehouses, Azure SQL, and Excel or CSV files using Dataflows Gen2.
How to clean and transform data and load it into a lakehouse.
How to build semantic models with relationships, hierarchies, measures and formatting, and how to optimise them.
How to create basic Power BI dashboards on top of your model.
How to manage refreshes, choose between manual and scheduled refresh, and set a sensible refresh frequency.
How to use Git integration for version control and deployment pipelines to promote solutions between environments.
How to publish and share reports securely, apply row-level security, and use endorsements, lineage and sensitivity labels for governance.
Learn Microsoft Fabric Your Way, Training Tailored to Your Needs
This course is offered in a UK-based face-to-face classroom or virtual setting and can be tailored to your needs. If your organisation already has a Fabric environment, data sources or governance rules in place, let us know and we can focus the course on what matters most to your team.
Solve Your Data Struggles with Expert Training
Whether you are a Power BI developer, business analyst or reporting specialist, those who come to PTR for Fabric training are usually asking:
What does Fabric change about the way I work in Power BI?
Where should my data live, and how do I find what already exists?
How do I prepare and share data so that others can reuse it?
How do I move my work from development to production without breaking it?
How do I share reports securely and keep my data governed?
If this sounds familiar, this is the course for you. We will walk you through practical answers to each of these, with exercises you can apply straight away in your own environment.
Prerequisites
This course is designed for people who already have some experience of Power BI. Delegates should have:
Working knowledge of Power BI Desktop
, including loading data, creating simple visuals and publishing a report.
A basic understanding of data modelling
, such as tables, relationships and measures. Our
course covers all of this.
Some familiarity with Power Query
is helpful, as Dataflows Gen2 uses the same transformation interface, but it is not essential.
No coding experience is required, and you do not need any prior experience of Microsoft Fabric.
To take part in the hands-on exercises, delegates will need access to a Microsoft Fabric environment where they can create items. We can provide this or help you set up a trial. If you are unsure whether your experience is the right fit, get in touch and we will be happy to advise.
