AI Readiness Assessment Consultancy Services

Find out if your data is ready for AI before you rely on it

AI tools are only as good as the data they draw on. Our assessment shows you, with evidence, where your data, platform and governance stand today, and gives you a prioritised plan for getting AI ready.

If your data is wrong, AI will be (confidently) wrong too

Lots of organisations are getting excited about AI and the opportunities it presents, but many projects stall for reasons that have nothing to do with the AI itself. It takes moments to enable an AI tool, but building trust in it can take much longer. An AI assistant or agent will happily search every document it can reach and every table it is pointed at, but it does not know correct from incorrect, what should be there from what shouldn't be there, what is up to date and what is out of date, which definitions are agreed and which are disputed, or what should be shared widely and what shouldn't be shared at all.
AI tools simply infer answers from whatever information they can reach (including information you may not have provided). Whether that information is right or wrong, they will present the answers with the same confidence either way. The problem is not the tool. It is the data, and the context it is presented in:
  • Fragmented data across different systems
  • Differing definitions of business terms and logic in different places
  • Inconsistent data quality
  • Inaccessible data
  • Conflicting or overly permissive security configuration
Good data won't guarantee good answers, but bad data guarantees bad ones
Our AI readiness assessment is intended to help you find those problems before they find you. It takes a short, structured look at your data, your platform, your governance and your people, measured against the AI use cases you actually want to run. You come away knowing what is ready now, what needs work first, and in what order you should tackle it to get the best ROI on your AI initiatives.

What are your challenges?

You will probably recognise some of these. There is pressure from the board or the business to do something with AI, but nobody can say which use cases are realistic or what has to be fixed first. A pilot produced impressive demos and then disappointing answers, and no one is sure whether the model, the data or the question was to blame. Microsoft 365 Copilot is due to roll out, and there is a quiet worry about what it might surface from shared drives and old SharePoint sites.
Underneath it all, key information sits in spreadsheets and documents rather than anything an AI tool can use. Definitions live in people's heads, access rights have grown by accident, and there is no clear owner for any of it. Everyone is keen to move, but nobody has a map of the ground.
AI doesn't fix problems with your data. It just reveals them faster.

How can PTR help?

We interview the people who use and look after your data, review your platform and architecture, and profile the real data behind your priority use cases to see how complete, consistent and current it actually is. Our assessment sets out to answer six key questions:
  • Is your data integrated, accurate and kept up to date?
  • Do your key business terms and metrics have a clear definition and agreed meaning?
  • Is your data well governed and compliant, so that AI sees only what it should?
  • Can AI tools reach your data safely?
  • Which use cases are worth pursuing?
  • Are your people ready to run with it, or is there a skills gap?
At the end of the process you receive a clear picture of where you sit now against where you want to get to, a set of technical recommendations to help you get there, and a roadmap to make it happen.
We work independently of any individual AI tool, so the findings hold whether you choose Microsoft 365 Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or something you build yourselves. We have spent over 35 years wrangling with data of all shapes and sizes, and as a Microsoft Solutions Partner for Data & AI the roadmap is grounded in Fabric, Azure and Purview. The roadmap is yours to keep. We would love to help you deliver it, but you are free to take it anywhere.
