Overview

Microsoft Fabric Administrator: Hands-on Training for Tenant and Capacity Administrators

Running Microsoft Fabric in an enterprise is not the same as running Power BI or a traditional Azure analytics estate. Fabric is a SaaS platform with shared capacities, a wide range of item types and a governance model that spans tenant, capacity and workspace. This 1-day course gives Fabric Administrators the practical knowledge to configure, govern, secure, monitor and operate a Fabric tenant with confidence.

The day combines hands-on labs, governance design patterns and operational best practice. You will leave with a clear picture of what a Fabric Administrator is responsible for, how to set up your tenant sensibly, and the routines that keep it healthy.

Develop Fabric Administration Skills:

  • How the Fabric architecture fits together (SaaS model, capacities and experiences), and how the Fabric, Power BI and Capacity Admin roles differ.

  • How to use tenant settings to apply governance and security controls, including enabling or disabling Fabric item types and managing data residency and regional capacities.

  • How to apply organisational data policies, approved workspace creation policies and sensitivity labels.

  • How to design a workspace strategy, from sandbox through dev/test to prod, with the right roles and access model for each.

  • How to manage capacity, including SKUs, workload limits, assigning workspaces, monitoring CPU, memory and concurrency, and balancing cost against performance.

  • How to secure the platform, including RLS and OLS, service principals, managed identities, and pipeline, Dataflow Gen2 and external data connections.

  • How to monitor and audit the tenant using the Admin Portal, the Capacity Metrics App and activity and audit logs, and how to set up alerting and find failed items.

  • How to automate and standardise administration with deployment pipelines, Git integration and the Fabric REST APIs.

  • How to extend governance with Microsoft Purview, including cataloguing, lineage and access policies.

  • How to plan for backup, recovery and lifecycle management, and how to run an effective admin operating model.

Learn Fabric Administration Your Way, Training Tailored to Your Needs

This course is offered in a UK-based face-to-face classroom or virtual setting and can be tailored to your needs. If your organisation has specific governance requirements, naming standards or an existing tenant configuration, let us know and we can focus the labs and discussion on your environment.

Solve Your Fabric Administration Struggles with Expert Training

Whether you are a Power BI administrator moving into Fabric, a platform lead or an IT operations professional, you are probably asking:

  • Which tenant settings should I change before I let people loose on Fabric?

  • How do I stop capacity being overloaded, and what do I do when it is?

  • How do I design workspaces and access so that teams can collaborate without losing control?

  • How do I monitor, audit and troubleshoot what is happening across the platform?

  • How do I automate repetitive admin tasks and keep governance consistent?

  • How do I govern data, lineage and sensitivity across Fabric and Purview?

If this sounds familiar, this is the course for you. We will walk you through practical approaches to each of these, with labs and checklists you can take straight back to your own tenant.

Prerequisites

This course is aimed at people who administer, or are about to administer, a Microsoft Fabric or Power BI tenant. Delegates should have:

  • Some experience of Power BI or Microsoft Fabric

, for example as a service administrator, workspace admin or platform owner.

  • A general understanding of Microsoft 365 or Azure administration concepts

, such as Microsoft Entra ID users and groups, licensing and role-based access.

  • A basic awareness of data platform concepts

, such as lakehouses, warehouses, pipelines and semantic models. You do not need to be able to build them.

No coding experience is required. Familiarity with Git and REST APIs is helpful for the automation session but not essential.

To get the most from the hands-on labs, delegates will need access to a Fabric environment with administrator rights. This can be a trial or test tenant, and we can help you arrange this before the course. If you are unsure whether your background is the right fit, get in touch and we will be happy to advise.
